Surrounded by the love of her family, Donna Jeanne Meinert, age 74, passed away Thursday, February 18, 2016, at Hospice House in Pleasant Prairie. Donna was born in Racine, June 26, 1941, daughter of the late John and Alma (Nee: Holmes) Holbus and was a lifelong resident.

Donna graduated from St. Catherine’s High School “Class of 1959.” On September 8, 1962, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, she married the love of her life Richard Meinert and together they raised three daughters. Donna was employed for several years at Kohl’s grocery store then went back to school where she proudly earned a Medical Assistant Degree. She worked in that capacity until her retirement in 2003. Donna was a member of St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church, Racine Yacht Club, the Classy Cruisers Car Club, and the Beavers Bridge Club. In addition to playing cards, she enjoyed board games, bicycling, traveling, and rooting for her favorite teams, the Brewers and Packers. Above all she treasured time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.

Surviving are her husband, Dick; daughters, Michele Breheim, Sheryl Petersen, and Krista Meinert; grandchildren, Kristin (Justin) Mills, Michael Breheim, Rachel Petersen, Ryan Petersen, Randi Meinert, Larson Meinert-Edquist, Mitchell Edquist; a sister, Barbara (Ray) Governatori; brother, John (Carol) Holbus; in-laws, Patricia Durik (Earl Morgan), Peter (Carol) Meinert, Sue Lamb, Linda Baer, Nancy Halbur, and Diane (Dean) Turner; nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her grandson, Lance Cpl. Jacob A. Meinert, KIA January 10, 2010.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, February 24, 2016, 11:00 A.M. at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church, 1903 Green St, with Reverend Steve Varghese officiating. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Tuesday at the funeral home 5-7 P.M. and on Wednesday at the church 10:30 A.M. – 11:00 A.M. Memorials to Camp Hometown Heroes or Hospice Alliance have been suggested.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the sarcoma oncology team at Froedtert Hospital and to the staff at Hospice Alliance for their loving and compassionate care.
