Donna Jean Fogleson, age 87, of Kalamazoo, MI Jean, also known as Donna to many of her Florida friends, passed away on Tuesday evening, July 11, 2017 at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence in Kalamazoo. She was born on April, 14 1930 in Lee Township in Allegan County to the late Carl and Josephine (Beurow) Johnson and grew up in Pullman, MI. She married her high school sweetheart, William Gene Fogleson, in 1950 and remained happily married for 56 years, until his passing in 2006. Together they raised 3 children, Karen, Bill and Susan at their home of 50+ years on Long Lake in Portage. Jean was a stay at home mom who enjoyed caring for her family and developing lifelong friendships with many of her neighbors, especially longtime friends, Don and Diana Peckels and family and Bob and Sharon. She volunteered for the American Red Cross for over 20 years, working in various capacities at Kalamazoo hospitals. Jean also enjoyed listening to music, dancing, cribbage, cross stitching, and crocheting. She also loved golfing with her longtime friend, Beverly. She and her husband Bill, owned the Black Swan restaurant in 19751985, where she enjoyed hostessing. She and Bill spent over 40 years loving the sun, sand, and surf at their second home on Treasure Island, Florida. There, they spent much of their day celebrating life with their lifelong friends Bob and Marva Verhage. Jean is survived by her three 3 children: Karen (Alan) Southland, William Fogleson Jr. and Susan Fogleson; 8 grandchildren: Justin (Martina), Ben and Will (Maure) Schuhardt, Matt (Keri) and Allison Berry, Jennifer (Victor) Bachand, Lindsey (TJ) Waldorf, and Robert Fogleson; 7 great-grandchildren: Alix, Nolan, Luca, Lilly, Caden, Ada, and Liam; sister: Helen Schroeder of Kalamazoo; and many nieces and nephews. Jean was also preceded in death by her brother: Robert Johnson. Friends may visit with Jean's family from 4-7 PM on Monday, July 17, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan or The Alzheimer's Association.
