Donald Vander Roest, aged 79, went to be with his Lord and Savior peacefully at home on October 19, 2025, in Schoolcraft, MI. Don was born on July 7, 1946, in Kalamazoo to Everett and Grace (DeYoung) Vander Roest.

Don graduated from Loy Norrix in 1964 and then continued his education as a journeyman carpenter. He dedicated 50 years of his life to the building trades, including 25 years in commercial construction followed by 25 years at Western Michigan University.

Don married the former Ruth Vander Lugt on October 11, 1968. Don and Ruth also opened a gift and craft store Tomorrow's Antiques that eventually became Stamp-A-Zoo which they ran together for 20 years.

Don was an active member of the Texas Corners Bible Church. His deep commitment to helping others was evident in his hobbies, which included woodworking and assisting neighbors with carpentry projects. Don cherished his time at Winterset Resort in Florida during the winters, where he continued his tradition of helping others and enjoyed playing 9 square with friends and neighbors.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth, and their children: Becki (Bill) Ruh, Lisa (Andrew) Vander Maas, Dan (Candace) Vander Roest, Sheri (Andy) Barker, David (Holly) Vander Roest, and Sandy Vander Roest. His legacy continues through his grandchildren Josiah (Morgan), Malachi, Isaiah, Billy, Lydia (Noah), Sophia (Utah), Michael, Riley, Gabriella, Hailey, Zoe, Ashley, Joe (Nora), Moses, Carter, Nolan, Trevor and 3 great grandchildren. And also his brother Raymond Vander Roest. Don was preceded in death by his parents and his granddaughter, Madilyn Vander Maas.

There will be a visitation & fellowship in Don's honor at Texas Corners Bible Church 7780 S 8th St, Kalamazoo, MI 49009 on Friday, October 24 beginning at 3 PM. He will be laid to rest at Harrison Cemetery during a private family service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Texas Corners Bible Church.
