Donald L. Wegan, age 86, passed away Thursday, November 24, 2016 at Ridgewood Health Care Center. Don was born in Barron, WI October 1, 1930 and graduated from Barron High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. Don came to Racine in 1971 and was employed as meat cutter with Piggly Wiggly until he retired in 1998. He then carried on his strong work ethics as a school bus driver for RUSD until the age of 82. He was an avid sports enthusiast and enjoyed watching the Packers, Badgers and the Brewers. He especially enjoyed his daily breakfast with his good friends at Annetta’s Café. Don loved to travel with his cherished companion, Dorothy, of forty two years. They went on many casino trips. Don loved a good conversation and always had a story to tell. All of our lived were enriched for having known him. He will be greatly missed and always be held dear to our hearts.

He is survived by his sister, Judith A. (Larry) Thompson of Ft. Myers, FL; nephews and nieces, Jeffrey (Mary) Thompson of Fort Lawn, SC, Craig Thompson of Winter Haven, FL, Margaret (Richard) Garbo, Barbara (Ronald) Michelman, Kathy (Gary) Brown of Bloomer, WI; and further survived by Don’s extended family, his loving companion of forty two years, Dorothy Jarvela and her children, Cindy (Tim) Strege, Diane (Tim) Kingsfield, Jim Vanden Branden (Rose), Pam Courtade and Scott Jarvela (Stacey); grandchildren, Kimberly (Steve) Meitner, Cory (Tom) Quirk, Kara Strege, Jane (Adam) Long, Stacy Little (Tom), Tiffany Ropiak, Cindy Vanden Branden, and Cody Courtade; 10 great grandchildren; two great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Helmer Wegan, mother Julia (Arnivik) Wegan and sister, Elaine Anderson.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 2, 2016 11:30 A.M. at the funeral home with Reverend Mark Doidge officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Town of Dover. Relatives and friends are welcome to meet with the family Friday at 10:30 until time of service at the funeral home.
