Donald F. Futymoski, age 91, of Aurora, IL passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2017. He was born December 3, 1925 in Kalamazoo, MI son of the late John and Wanda Futymoski. He attended Roosevelt School and Kalamazoo Central High School. At the age of 18, Don joined the United States Marine Corps and became part of the 5th Marine Division as a gunner in a mortar platoon on Iwo Jima. After the surrender of Japan, he was part of the occupation forces on the island of Kyushu. When he returned from the war, Don became a pipefitter and worked for Upjohn in Kalamazoo. Don married Margaret J. Watt on October 31, 1953 in Aurora. He was a Sprinklerfitter for UA Local 669. He joined the Aurora Fire Department in 1956 and retired in 1979. He was a member of the Fox Valley Marines, Phoenix Club and a former member of Moose Lodge 400. He coached boys' baseball with Gordy Volkman and also youth league softball. Don enjoyed watching Sealmasters and Home Savings at SA Field and when they travelled as well. He also enjoyed fishing and vegetable gardening. Don is survived by his sons, Bill Futymoski and Scott Futymoski; granddaughters, Jennifer (Jacob) Hugg and Heather Futymoski; siblings, Millie Powers, Lorraine Endicott, Lillian (Ken) Williams, Stan Futymoski and Ed (Jean) Futymoski. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Margaret J. Futymoski and siblings, Pete Futymoski, Tina Russell and John Futymoski. A memorial service will be held at 10 AM on Friday, July 28, 2017 at Wesley United Methodist Church, 14 N. May St., Aurora, IL 60506 followed by a burial at Sugar Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fox Valley Marines or to Wesley United Methodist Church. Arrangements were handled by The Healy Chapel, Aurora.
