Donald Richard "Dick" Gurn of Allegan, MI and Largo, FL passed away at the age of 87 in Largo, FL. Those who have marched in or attended the Allegan County Fair Parade, heard The Music Makers of Allegan or donated to the annual Rotary Club Auction for Hospice likely know who Dick Gurn is. He touched many lives with that service as well as his music and businesses. Born in Allegan Township to Walter and Amy Gurn, he loved farming and worked at Rockwell International for 13 years. He also owned and operated a variety of other businesses, some include a car wash, an apartment building, the Tastee Burger, The Jacket Shoppe, and a trucking company. He founded and directed The Music Makers for 25 years. He was the first recipient of the Allegan School Bell award in 1977 for his love of music and his help with the school's music program. A member of the Allegan Rotary Club for more than 35 years Dick was the driving force behind the club's annual auction fundraiser starting in 2002. Gurn and his family directed the Allegan County Fair Parade for 35 years. He is survived by his wife of 68 years Betty. children; William (Donna Rae), Donna (Don Cook) and Robert (Kris); 5 Grandchildren, Melissa (Howard) Prichard, Bill Gurn Jr., Ryan Gurn (Tina Dortch Scott), Abby (Bryan) Morgan, Katy Brown (Willie Pope) and 6 Great Grandchildren, Jeni (Mitch Berends), Zach, Hadley, Kellan, Haley and Elli. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Marilyn Gurn Heckman. A Memorial Service will be Saturday, June 3 at 11:00 A.M. at Christ Community Church, 3370 113th Ave., Allegan, Mi with a luncheon to follow.
