Donald Cool

Donald was born in Newaygo, MI on May 25, 1938, the son of the late Donald Orville Cool and Bernice Holden Cool. He graduated from Newaygo High School in 1956 and married his high school sweetheart, Sonya Ann Stebing on September 29, 1956. He served his country and joined the United States Navy on March 27, 1957. He spent most of his life living in Portage and owned and operated the Portage Barber Shop. He enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing. He loved trips with the family and especially enjoyed time with his grandchildren, coaching and watching little league baseball. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Sonya Cool; four children, Scott Cool, Donnie (Lisa) Cool, Stacey (Greg) Klaiber-Cool and Dave (Kathy) Byer; six grandchildren, Drew Cool, Erin (Rory) Abbott, Rosemary (Josh) Stanley, Shelby Klaiber, Courtney Cool and Nick Klaiber; two great-grandchildren, Landon and Tucker; one sister, Loraine (Al) Williams; and many nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. A memorial gathering celebrating Donald's life will be held from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 29th at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 East Centre Ave., Portage, MI 49002. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society.
