Dick Gettys

Dick L. Gettys, age 81, of Scotts, MI passed Monday, November 14, 2016. Dick was born on August 9, 1935 in Kalamazoo to Leonard and Gladys (Mohney) Gettys. He joined the Air Force July 24, 1954 and was stationed in Nevada were he was a military policeman. He was given special duty assignment as a guard to president Eisenhower. After that assignment was given an honorable discharge and was an inactive reservist. Upon returning home, he married Diana (Lesterhouse) Gettys on August 16, 1958. Dick then worked for Kalamazoo Paper Company, Platecraft and then worked and retired after 20 years from the city of Kalamazoo as a foreman in the public works depart. Dick also was a volunteer fireman with Greenfield Shores for 35 years. Dick enjoyed fishing and later going to the casinos. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, son, Scott Gettys, two sisters and four brothers. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Diana; daughter, Michelle; and son, Sam. He also is survived by two sisters and two brothers. A graveside service will be held on November 26th at 1 PM. Grand Prairie Cemetery, Kalamazoo.
