Age 23, of Crown Point, formerly of Cedar Lake, passed away March 5, 2018. He graduated from Hanover Central High School, Class of 2013, and attended Purdue University Calumet. Derrick was also a certified personal trainer. He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church in Cedar Lake. Derrick was a loving son, brother, nephew, godson, cousin, and friend. Derrick, with his hair of gold, would light up any room, with his million dollar smile and the twinkle in his eyes; but, he will be remembered most for his kindheartedness and his passion for riding motorcycles. He will be greatly missed. Derrick was preceded in death by grandparents- Milton and Naomi Kerley and Clarence and Carolyn Kozminske; uncles- Tom Kozminske, Jerry Kerley, and Everett Borders. He is survived by his parents- Rick and Connie Kerley; sister- Breanna Kerley; aunts- Sharon (Andrew) Armstrong, Patricia Kozminske, Dwana Kozminske, Kathleen Kozminske (Norm) Theoret, Donna Borders; uncles- David (Aura) Kozminske, Jim (Judy) Kozminske, Joseph Kozminske, Boyd (Sharon) Kerley, Mike (Cheryl) Kerley, Virgil Shreffler; girlfriend- Andra Bleier; numerous cousins. Visitation will be held from 3-8 p.m. on Friday, March 9, 2018, at Burns Funeral Home, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point, IN. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place DIRECTLY at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2018, at Holy Name Catholic Church, 11000 W. 133rd. Ave, Cedar Lake, IN. Interment at Holy Name Cemetery.
