Life Story / Obituary

Debora Daniels passed away December 20, 2017. She was born September 13, 1956 to Ardith and John Daniels, taking her place as the “baby” to three older sisters.

As a young girl, Debora liked to go downtown to the Kalamazoo Mall and take in movies at the State Theatre. She enjoyed finding treasures while metal detecting with her Dad and having sleepovers at her Grandma Wheelers. In her twenties she worked many jobs that consisted of taking care of people with physical and/or mental limitations. She babysat for all the kids in the family and the neighborhood and after the birth of her daughter, Alison, returned to school. She graduated from KVCC and began her career as a legal secretary. She worked for Butler, Durham and Toweson for eighteen years, as well as a legal assistant for Attorney Doug Merrow and then Moretti group.

As much as Debbie loved babies and dogs, she found her true calling in the role of Grandma. She carved out special time and created traditions for each one of her cherished grandchildren.

Sister time with Janie, Mary Lou and Nancy was very special to Deb. Throughout the years they remained close and enjoyed many trips to the UP and spent a lot of time making memories together. Debbie loved being around people and her funny and engaging personality attracted many friends who will miss her laughter and stories.

Deb was invited to a Christmas Eve Church Worship Service by her friend Karen in the mid nineties and soon made profession of faith. She was active in church drama, Bible studies, Vacation Bible School and of course, rocking the babies in the nursery. Deb shared her faith in her own unique way and always found “God moments” in her daily living.

A year ago Deb received a cancer diagnosis, but she never let that slow her down. Her sense of humor and positive attitude stayed intact and she continued to live life to the fullest.

Deb was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her daughter Alison Fraaza (Daniels-Clancy) Hanna, Nolan and Lillianna Clancy and bonus granddaughter Morgan Clancy. Also surviving are her sisters Jane Byers, Mary Lou Roberts, Nancy Austin, her beloved dog, "Melman" and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service for Debbie will take place on January 6th at 2:00 p.m. at Nazareth Assembly of God, 4039 Nazareth Road, Kalamazoo, MI 49004. Luncheon at Eastland, 5570 Gull Rd, Kalamazoo MI 49048 to follow after. Arrangements by Betzler Life Story Funeral Home, 6080 Stadium Drive; Kalamazoo (269) 375-2900.
