Age 77, passed away on February 26, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 19, 1941 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He was the son of Stanley and Imogene Nowakowski and lived his whole life in Southwest Michigan. Following high school, Dean began working at the UpJohn Company and retired after 41 years of service as an Animal Technician. Dean worked many long hours and was truly a man with a phenomenal work ethic. On May 31, 1975, he married the love of his life, Diana Happel and they most recently celebrated 43 years of marriage. Dean was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Bernie and his sister Carol Cook. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Diana, their children, Mandy Nowakowksi of Richland, Jennifer Munting of Portage and Adam (Michelle) Nowakowski of Kalamazoo, his beloved granddaughters, Brynn and Zoey, seven brothers and sisters and their spouses. In accordance with his wishes, cremation will take place and a gathering to celebrate Dean's life will be held on Saturday March 9, 2019 from 2 pm to 5 pm at the Yorkville Community Church's fellowship hall, located at 11263 East D Avenue, Richland. A committal ceremony with full military honors will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery located at 11501 Dickman Road in Augusta, Michigan on Wednesday March 13, at 11 o'clock. Those wishing to attend the committal ceremony are encouraged to arrive to the cortege area of the cemetery no later than 10:45 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to an educational fund for his grandchildren, c/o Jennifer Munting.
