David Schantz

David Schantz, age 87 of Grand Rapids, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, December 17, 2016 and is now home with his Lord and Savior. He was born September 25th 1929 to Henry and Helen (Bremer) Schantz of Grand Rapids. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Donald (Marjorie), Robert and Wally. Surviving is his brother, Henry (Barbara) Schantz III of Elk Rapids, Michigan along with several nieces and nephews. David enlisted in the U.S Army and was stationed in Germany for several years. He was a world traveler his entire life and enjoyed all modes of transportation including boats, planes and his favorite, trains in getting to all of his destinations. David enjoyed researching his family genealogy and traced their roots back to the 1700’s. His friends and faith are what meant the most to David. He was blessed with lifelong friends from the Ottawa Hills neighborhood and Hope Lutheran Church. A special note of thanks to his close friend, Robert Haan, and the staff at Samaritas Woods Care Unit. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30 PM on Friday, December 23, 2016 at Hope Lutheran Church, 100 Packard Ave SE.
