Dave E. Overlander, age 58, of Ann Arbor, MI son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, friend to all, raconteur extraordinaire, notable green thumb, and all around aficionado of fun passed in his sleep early Saturday morning December 24, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Originally from Portage, Michigan, Dave also spent years in South Haven before moving to Ann Arbor to be with the gal of his dreams, Kathleen Beck. Together they forged a life rich in laughter, generosity of spirit, heartfelt friendships, and a shared and vital appreciation of nature, the arts, and Michigan Football. Preceding Dave in death was his father Don and brother Bob.Surviving is his wife, Kathleen Overlander; in addition, he will be most deeply missed by his children, Abbie (Steve) Rogers, Martha (Tad) Polley, and Patrick (Katie) Maly; his mother, Celia Overlander; two sisters, Barbara (Daniel) Afton and Mary (Ronald) Norris; brothers in law Stephen Beck, Peter (Linda) Beck, Robert (Elise) Beck, Franklin Beck, and David Beck; grandchildren, Theo, Claire, Gavin and Brandon; nieces and nephews, Thomas, Katie, Jacob, Amy, Dion, Amanda, Brian, Robbie, Kimberly, Briggs, Brooklyn, Zackary, Lauren, Ethan, Audrey, Alexander, Robert, Sarah, David Jr. and Charlie. A private memorial service is planned for Thursday in Ann Arbor. A celebration of life service is planned for Friday, December 30th, 4:00pm at Pathfinder United Methodist Church (8740 S. Westnedge, Portage, MI). Donations may be given to Arbor Hospice, University of Michigan's Nichols Arboretum, Boy Scouts of America, or charity of choice in Dave's name.
