David E. Barnes, 85, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully, June 9, 2018 at Munson Hospice House with his loving family by his side.

David was born to Earl and Martha Barnes on January 1, 1933 in Newark, Ohio. On February 1, 1952, he married Barbara Westbrook in Mt. Pleasant, where they lived until moving to Traverse City in 1978. With his wife, Barbara, they raised five children.

Following graduation from high school, David worked for Roosevelt Refinery and later in furniture sales in Mt. Pleasant. After moving to Traverse City, David worked briefly in real estate.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; sons, Devon (Terry) of North Carolina, Mitchell of Traverse City, Dan (Mary) of Williamsburg, Bill of Traverse City and daughter, Holly (Gordon) of Grand Rapids.

David was known for his wit and love of a good story. He was an avid sports fan and long time fan of the Detroit Tigers.

Memorial Services will be held 2pm, Sunday, July 15, 2018 at the Presbyterian Church of Traverse City.
