Daniel Fleischhacker

Dr. Daniel Fleischhacker passed away peacefully at his home in Kalamazoo on Monday June 24, 2019 at 87 years of age. He was born to the late John and Florence (Masterman) Fleischhacker on December 7, 1931. Dan grew up in St. Paul Minnesota, where he developed a passion for theater during high school. He went on to become a theater professor at Western Michigan University, where he was affectionately known by his students as Dr. Dan. He met his wife, Lena, at the University of Georgia. During their 56 years of marriage they shared a love of acting, antiquing, and writing. He was an avid gardener and a talented writer and director. His kindness touched the lives of many in the theater and antiquing communities. The light of his life was his granddaughter Gracie who brought joy to his life and inspired his children's stories. Dan lived his life with integrity and kindness. Love was the theme of his life, and he poured his heart into the relationships he held most dear: His wife, Lena; daughter, Dana; dear friend, David; and granddaughter, Gracie. Daniel was preceded in death by his parents John and Florence (Masterman) Fleischhacker. He is also survived by his brothers: John (Margaret) Fleischhacker and James (Pat) Fleischhacker. Friends and family are invited to a visitation from 4:00 to 6:30 PM on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 with a Rosary Prayer service to take place at 6:30 PM at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services, 3926 S 9th St, Kalamazoo, MI 49009. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Student Parish, 421 Monroe St, Kalamazoo, MI 49006 on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at 11:00 AM with a gathering one hour prior to the service.
