Life Story / Obituary

Dana Beth Wardlaw passed away the morning of April 28, 2017 at her home in Kalamazoo, Michigan after a courageous 5-year battle with cancer. Dana was born July 11, 1958 in Kalamazoo; the daughter of the late Nelson Schupan and Charlotte (Okun) Schupan. A graduate of Loy Norrix High School and Western Michigan University, Dana dedicated her many talents and magnetic personality to help grow her family business, Schupan & Sons, Inc. After over 35 years with the company, Dana is easily recognized as the “most successful sales person” in the near 50-year history of Schupan & Sons.

Above and beyond her career, Dana’s greatest love was her family. On July 3, 1983, she married her soulmate, Jay Patrick Wardlaw, who survives along with their son, Maxwell Nelson Wardlaw, and daughter, Alexandra Fae Wardlaw. Anyone who knows the Wardlaw family can attest to the remarkable and truly unconditional love they have for one another.

Dana is also survived by her siblings: Marc Schupan, Dan Schupan, and Anelyse (Schupan) Cotter, her mother-in-law: Jacquelyn Wardlaw, and several nieces and nephews. A private service was held this past Thursday at Betzler Life Story Funeral Home in Kalamazoo. A Celebration of Life Open House will be held Saturday, July 8, 2017 from 4-7 PM at the Great Lakes Shipping Company, 4525 West KL Avenue; Kalamazoo. Please visit www.betzlerfuneralhome.com to share condolences or a memory. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations are made to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
