Anderson, Dana R. 3/25/1925 - 8/21/2021 Kalamazoo Age 96, passed away on August 21, 2021, with family at her side. She was born in Detroit, Michigan on March 25, 1925, the daughter of the late Amos and Mildred (Matthews) Babcock. Dana will be remembered for her spontaneity of new adventures, supporting her children's endeavors and her classic cursive penmanship. At the age of four, she met Jane McKenna Rogers, her best friend. They created laughable stories sharing them over the next nine decades. On August 31, 1946, she married Louis Anderson who preceded her in passing in 1981. They were blessed with two sons and two daughters. Dana was a loving and dedicated mother who was involved in and supportive of her children's passions and hobbies. The family spent many summers boating on Lake Michigan where Dana learned how to read nautical maps and the use of instruments for accurate port locations from Chicago up to Mackinac Island. Dana would eventually return to work as a Dental Assistant, a career that spanned 67 years, practicing both general and orthodontic dentistry. She also worked at the County Health Department, serving those in need. She retired at the age of 85. When not working she was a loyal Detroit Tiger's baseball fan, a passion she learned as a child from listening to games on the radio with her grandfather. She was also a presence at the Ladies Library and enjoyed playing bridge with her friends. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church, where her faith and passion for Christ was ever present. Even through the restrictions of Covid, Dana found ways to stay connected to family and friends, even if it meant having conversations through the window. Dana's belief that Christ has had and always will have full control of the world's events, including every individual on Earth gave her the hope she needed. Dana loved animals, especially the many dogs she cared for throughout the years. Her warm smile gentle nature and loving spirit will always be remembered by those who knew her. She is survived by four children, Ronald (Kathy) Anderson, Greg (Cheryl) Anderson, Nancy (David) DeBoever, Dona (John) Lincoln; thirteen grandchildren and many great-grandchildren with one great-grandchild on the way; many nieces, nephews and friends. She was also preceded in passing by a sister, Dorothy Jean Nolen and brother-in-law, Dr. John Nolen. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Friday, September 3, 2021, at First United Methodist Church, 212 S. Park St. Kalamazoo, MI 49007, beginning at 2:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church or the Animal Rescue Project of Kalamazoo, c/o the funeral home.
