Maylath, Clyde O. 4/30/1929 - 3/30/2019 Kalamazoo (Formerly of Paw Paw) Succumbed to Parkinson's on Saturday, March 30, 2019, at Bronson Commons, Mattawan. Born April 30, 1929, to Oscar H. and Ella (Humphrey) Maylath, in New York, NY, he grew up in Croton-on-Hudson, NY. After graduating in 1951 from New York University's School of Engineering, he entered the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was assigned to the Scientific & Professional Program, Transportation Corps, Ft. Eustis, VA. While on active duty, he observed an atomic bomb test 4,000 yards from ground zero. In 1953, in Washington, DC, he met and married S. Carroll Eaker, of Bloomfield, MO. Together they moved to Michigan and raised four children. After she died in 2002, he met Jane Beers, of Kalamazoo, on a tour of Slovenia and Croatia. They married in 2008. A resident of Paw Paw for 29 years, Clyde spent 36 years as a civil engineer with the Michigan Department of Transportation, constructing sections of I-94, I-69, I-196, and other state highways. He was active in the leadership of the First Presbyterian Church of Paw Paw and for many years served as Scoutmaster of the church's Boy Scout Troop 169. Later, he served as treasurer of Boy Scout Troop 205, in Kalamazoo. For his contributions to the BSA's Southwest Michigan Council, he was honored with its highest award, the Silver Beaver. During retirement, he worked on Red Cross national disaster teams and served as a guide at the Kellogg Bird Sanctuary. Residing in Kalamazoo since 1987, he is survived by his wife, Jane; 4 children: Bruce (AnneMarie), Brooke, Glen (Claire), and Scott (Lisa) Maylath; 3 stepchildren: Mark Johnston, Mary (Robert) Hildie, and David (Cindy) Johnston; 7 grandchildren and step-grandchildren: Fiona, Dustin, and Trevor Maylath-Bryant, Madisenne Irvine Maylath, Joshua Maylath, and Spencer and Rachel Hildie; a brother and sister-in-law: Ronald and Charlotte Maylath; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, S. Carl and Margaret Eaker; dear friend John Pearson. A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, April 12, 2019, at First Presbyterian Church of Kalamazoo, 321 W. South St. Kalamazoo, MI 49007, beginning at 11:00 AM. A memorial service will follow, beginning at 12:00 PM. Private interment will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan, The Michael J. Fox Foundation, or the Boy Scouts of America, c/o the funeral home.
