Clifford Lyle Harrington, age 88, of Portage died on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at Bronson Commons in Mattawan. He was born on March 27, 1930 in South Haven, the son of Clifford and Lydia (Howe) Harrington and graduated from South Haven High School in 1948. He later earned a degree in mechanical engineering from Michigan Tech after he fulfilled his military obligations with the United States Army. On June 23, 1956 he married Dorothy Layton at the Monterey Center M.E. Church and together they raised their children in a loving and caring home. Cliff was an active member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church and over the years he served the church in many capacities and he worked tirelessly for Gideons International and for the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) at their Sager-Brown Depot in Baldwin, Louisiana. Cliff worked for Clarage Fan Company and was part owner of Wilson-Brinker Associates, retiring in 1996. Cliff will be remembered as a no nonsense guy with a great sense of humor who truly cared for his family and for people.

Surviving members of Cliff’s family include his wife Dorothy; children: Kenneth (Susan) Harrington, Kathye (Paul) Harrington-Taber, Mary (Michael) Stahl, Sally Harrington (Pam Nelson), Dr. Sarah Kim Margolis and Cassia Margolis; 18 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; 3 sisters: Kathleen Post, Josephine Cole and Nancy Mahoney. He was preceded in death by his brothers: Jack, Warren, and Willis.

Cremation has taken place and a Memorial service will take place at 11 am on Thursday, February 21st at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, 7028 Oakland Drive, Portage. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and a lunch will immediately following the service in the church’s fellowship hall.
