It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Christopher Lee Crowell announce the passing of their father and husband on February 5, 2018 at the age of 58.

Chris was born at St. Luke’s Hospital in Racine, Wisconsin on July 24, 1959, the son of Philip and Dorothy (Weiss) Crowell. Chris attended The Prairie School where he excelled in English and writing like his mother. He was a dedicated athlete, scoring the winning goal and bringing the Hawks to victory in the 1976 Wisconsin Men’s Soccer State Championship. Chris went on to attend the University of Wisconsin-Parkside on soccer scholarship, graduating with a B.S. in Business Administration.

Chris married Marian Johnson on September 10, 1988 at First United Methodist Church and raised their children, Jenna and Andrew “Drew,” in Racine.

Chris truly was a man of Wisconsin athletics. He was known by many as “Chris the Ref,” officiating high school basketball for 25 years. He spent many summers pitching for Visual Numerics, his Racine softball team. He reconnected with Prairie by coaching Drew’s middle school basketball team for several years. And for the past eight seasons, Chris and Marian spent their Saturdays in Madison rooting on Badger Football and visiting their children.

Surviving Chris is his loving wife of 29 years, Marian and his two children, Jenna and Drew; his two sisters, Deborah Crowell and Kimberly Crowell of Madison. Further survived by Elisabeth and H. Herbert Fisher and their children Charles (Estefania) and Jacklyn of Texas; Thomas and Linda Johnson and their daughters Catherine and Sarah, his goddaughter, of Racine; and Clare Johnson and Susan O’Donnell, Ann Johnson and Lisa Lindsey and Susan Johnson all of Arizona.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Philip and Dorothy Crowell and his in-laws, Charles and Jennifer Johnson. A special thank you to Jake Schilling, who selflessly served as organ donor to Chris in February 2012.

Private funeral services will be held.

Chris, our man of few words, will be forever in our hearts.
