Christine Sitkins

Christine Carole Stikins, age 67, of Kalamazoo, MI passed away on Wednesday, October 5, 2016. Christine was born in Ironwood, MI on December 13, 1948, the daughter of the late Walter and Mildred (Larson) Niemcek. She graduated from Allen Park High School, before moving to the Kalamazoo area. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. She was an active volunteer with Western Michigan University, serving with the Gary Fund and the New Heritage Center. She enjoyed genealogy, studying local Michigan history and gardening. Christine was married to Fred Sitkins on June 24, 1978; he preceded her in death on November 7, 2015. She is survived by two children, Lee (Molli) Varga and Sean Varga; eight grandchildren, Beth (Perry), Zac, Nathan, Bryce, Wyatt, Hayden, Sawyer and Sylas; one great-grandchild, Leland; one sister, Barbara (Ron) Umbarger; one niece, Kristen and one nephew, Jayson (Stacie). Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 10th at Zion Lutheran Church, 2122 Bronson Blvd., with Pastor Tim Seeber officiating. Friends may visit with the family at the church from 9 a.m. until time of the service. Memorial contributions may be given to Zion Lutheran Church.
