Chris Root

Root, Chris E. of Galesburg Chris went home to be with his Lord Jesus, whom he loved so much, on Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 23, 2016 at Borgess Medical Center. He was born on May 15, 1944 in Kalamazoo, the son of Elihu and Hazel (Hopkins) Root. On June 5, 1964, he was married to his childhood sweetheart, Carroll McDaniel. Chris worked in advertising arts all of this life, employed by Ken Eddy Advertising and also for John Upjohn Assoc. He also owned his own art studio out of his home for many years. Chris expressed his passions through the outdoors, tilling God's land by adding more beauty. He was a devoted Christian. His purpose in life was to serve the Lord and love his family. His biggest passion is Christ, his loving wife, children, grandchildren and friends, whom he passed his talents onto. He showed love and forgiveness being there for them on any matter. Surviving are his wife of 52 years: Carroll Root; their daughter: Tina (Tony) Bernheisel; son: Todd (Yvonne Garland) Root; three grandchildren: Jessica Root, Meara Bernheisel and Levi Root; sister: Juniata (Tom) Earl; three nephews: Tandy, Gabe and Tony Earl; and several in-laws. Preceding him in death were his parents; infant daughter: Nia Root; and niece: Maria Earl. A funeral service to celebrate Chris' life will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, Nov. 29, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Galesburg Chapel, 145 W. Battle Creek Street, where friends may visit with the family from 10:00am till the time of service. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Galesburg. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family to assist with medical expenses.
