At age 63, Cheryl peacefully passed away on, Thursday, August 3, 2017 at the hospital in Racine.

She was born on August 24, 1953 in Racine, daughter of James and Lillian (nee: Wilhelmi) Dougard. On April 22, 1989, she was united in marriage to William Sanders, Jr.

Cheryl was a graduate of St. Catherine's High School Class of 1971.

For the past seven years, due to a severe stroke, Cheryl resided at Ridgewood Care Center where despite her inability to speak or write, she developed many friendships with staff and residents. Prior to her stroke, she was a devoted wife caring for her husband until his death on June 22, 2006.

Cheryl will be missed by her loving mother, Lillian Dougard of Racine; sister, Carla (Don) Holm of Racine; nephew, Eric Holm of Chandler, AZ; niece, Heidi (Bob) Hoey of Racine; great nieces, Emma and Reagan Hoey and many other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her loving father, James Dougard.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 14, 2017, 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. No visitation. Private Internment. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Alliance for the Mentally Ill or the Disabled American Veterans.

The family wishes to thank the Ridgewood staff and Dr. Wm. Bjerrgaard for their compassionate care and support over the years.
