Charlotte Goldstein

Charlotte Goldstein, age 84, of Schoolcraft, MI: After a courageous battle with cancer, Charlotte passed away Tuesday afternoon, August 15, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family. Charlotte was born December 16, 1932 in Brooklyn, NY the daughter of the late Louis and Bella (Isler) Cohen. During her childhood, Charlotte loved spending time with her siblings and visiting their father's candy truck. As she became an adult she worked in Manhattan in the jewelry industry. Upon moving to Portage, she immersed herself in her children's activities and eventually adapted to the Midwest lifestyle. Charlotte was the interior designer and co-owner of K&M Distributing for many years. She enjoyed reading, shoe shopping, and boating, but most of all the close bond she had with her grandchildren. Charlotte's family meant the world to her and she loved spending time with them. She is survived by her loving companion of 38 years, her "true husband", Ken Mellema; her daughters, Wendy (Mike) Osgood, Jill (Leo) Torvinen, Lynn (Clint) Wagner; step-children, Ken Jr. (Debbie) Mellema, Debbie Gomez, Kim (Bill) Schouwburg, Pam (John) Quigley, Eric (Lisa) Mellema; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Steve (Marlene) Cohen; and several nieces and nephews. Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents; and an identical twin sister, Marilyn Koltenuk. Friends may meet the family from 11:00-12:00pm on Sunday, August 20 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street, where a memorial service will take place at 12:00pm, and a luncheon will immediately follow the service at the funeral home. Private interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the West Michigan Cancer Center or Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan
