Charlie Konett, age 66, of Kalamazoo, MI passed away on the afternoon of January 13, 2016 in Kalamazoo, MI. He was born January 18, 1949 in Peru, IL, the son of Lee and Virginia Konett. Charlie graduated from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, with a degree in finance. On June 12, 1971, he was united in marriage to his loving wife Lynne. Charlie and Lynne moved to Kalamazoo in 1976 to establish Bilbo's Pizza, along with their dear friends John and Debbie Hindman. Charlie was a long time runner and cyclist, dedicated to the fitness of his body and mind. He was a fourth degree black belt and instructor in Tae Kwon Do. Charlie actively engaged in the pursuit of knowledge through his love of literature, music, poetry, and science. He was a genuine person, loved as a father, grandfather, friend, and employer. Charlie was a hero to his children and the true love of Lynne's life. He loved to laugh and looked forward to his yearly fishing trip in Canada with his friends. He spent years volunteering in the Kalamazoo Public Schools and for the AYSO. Charlie and Lynne enjoyed traveling to new places, biking and sitting on the beach. They especially loved being active in their favorite spot, Glen Arbor, MI. He is survived by his wife, Lynne, son Zachary (M.L.), son Nicholas (Julie), son Ethan (Tracy), and daughter Maggie. Charlie enjoyed time with his seven wonderful grandchildren: Ali, Xav, Lena, Liv, Johnathan, Maya, and Sam. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Greg Radisch (Ruth Hodge) and sisters Paula Venturi (Mark) and Ellen Wilson. Friends may meet with Charlie's family on Sunday, January 17 from 1-3 PM and 5-7 PM at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street. A celebration of Charlie's life will be held at Bilbo's Pizza at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the West Michigan Cancer Center or Hospice Care of SW Michigan.
