Carroll Dean Short, age 83, of Mattawan, MI went to be with his LORD and Savior on April 20, 2015, surrounded by his family after battling glioblastoma cancer. Dean was the beloved husband of Dorothy (Roskam) Short, loving father of David (Jane) Short, Daniel (Debbie) Short, and Deb (Ken) Tuinier. Dean is also survived by seven grandchildren, whom he encouraged, supported and deeply loved: Lynnelle (Nathan) Funk, Elizabeth Short, Amanda (Chad) Kirchoff, Ashley Short, Jennifer (David) Damesworth, Jill Tuinier and Jeffrey Tuinier; six great-grandchildren: Noah, Joysan, Jonathan, Andrew, Aubree, Austin. Dean was preceded in death by his parents: Ward and Margaret Short; brother: Warren; parents-in-law: Arie and Gertrude Roskam; great-grandson, Emmanuel; and brother-in-law: Robert Taylor. Dean was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He was married to his high school sweetheart Dorothy for almost 63 years (May 9, 1952). He served in the U.S. Army in Korea. He served the LORD at Bethel Baptist Church, Berean Baptist Church, S.O.W.E.R.S. ministry, and Wycliffe Ministries. Dean worked for The Upjohn Co. 33 years and Tuinier Brothers' Greenhouse 10 years. In retirement, he focused much time toward volunteering for the LORD, enjoying traveling, and spending precious family time at Eagle Lake, Glen Lake and Orlando, FL. Dean left a legacy of faithfulness to the LORD GOD he loved and served. Services will be held 11:00 Monday morning, April 27, 2015 at Berean Baptist Church, 7813 South 12th Street, with Pastor Bill Abernathy and Pastor Steve Nichols officiating. Dean's family will receive guests at church beginning at 9:00 and again following the service. Private burial with military honors will be held in Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Berean Baptist Church or Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan. Services provided by Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick Street.
