"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." Carlos Fernandez, of Kalamazoo, MI passed away Sunday, November 22, 2015 at the age of 44, after a two year journey with lymphoma. He was born August 19, 1971 in Kalamazoo to Eugenio and Caridad (Salcedo) Fernandez. He was united in marriage to Marcy Geiger on August 15, 1992 for a loving 23 years together. Carlos was a long time member and deacon at Reformed Baptist Church of Kalamazoo. Over the past many years, he was employed with Arvco Container, GRT Avionics, Hoekstra's Hardware, and Alumilite Engineering. Carlos had a great passion for all things aviation. He was involved with EAA, local chapter 221. He was a private pilot; he loved RC planes and quad-copters. He spent the last 12 years with his friend Andy Millin, building Andy's plane and had the great pleasure of flying it many times over the last year. Carlos was involved with FIRST Robotics and loved mentoring those involved. Carlos is survived by his wife, Marcy Fernandez; children, Alexander and Leah Fernandez; his parents; siblings, Eugenio (Mayte) Fernandez, Marya Castillo, Cristina (Marcos) Vazquez, Lourdes (Fidel) Joa, Barbara Fernandez-Hooper, Juan (Janet) Fernandez, Jose (Trina) Fernandez and Elizabeth Fernandez; mother and father-in-law, Duane and Joyce Geiger; brothers and sisters-in-law, Meloni (Gary) Blok, Jeff (Denise) Geiger and Molly (Dan) Alphenaar; and many aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Friends may meet the family on Friday, November 27th from 1-4 and 5-8pm at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St., A memorial service will take place on Saturday, 1:00 pm at Berean Baptist Church, 7813 S. 12th Street, Portage. A private interment will be at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Gardens South.
