Mitchell, Carl Edward Kalamazoo, MI Mr. Carl Edward Mitchell passed away on February 6, 2017, in Kalamazoo, MI. He was born to the union of Augustine and Robert Mitchell Sr. in Birmingham, Alabama on December 6, 1944. Carl has two brothers, Robert (Odell) Mitchell Jr. of Indianapolis, Indiana and Ronald Mitchell of Bremerton, Washington and one sister, Geraldine Baker. Carl's parents and a sister preceded him in death. The family moved to Benton Harbor, Michigan in 1952 where Carl received his formal education. He was a true patriot and voluntarily enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served for 9 years including a tour in Vietnam. Carl was trained as an Electrician. After becoming a proud member of the IBEW Union Local 131 in Kalamazoo, MI, he worked as a Journeyman Electrician for 35 years. Carl married Mary Ann Mitchell, also of Benton Harbor in 1992 and became a father to two step- sons, Ralph G. Carnegie III of Ann Arbor, MI and Jarriel R. Carnegie of Kalamazoo, MI. He has four step-grandchildren, Jayla R. Carnegie, Claire M. Carnegie, and Kylia M. Carnegie of Kalamazoo, MI, and Owen A. Carnegie of Ann Arbor, MI. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Mary Ann, step-children and grandchildren, two brothers and a special sister-in-law, Odell. Carl also leaves behind a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. A Memorial Service will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at Unity of Kalamazoo, 1204 Whites Road, Kalamazoo, MI 49008. Interment will follow services at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI. In lieu of flowers, the family requests sending donations to: Benton Harbor Homecoming, Inc. Scholarship Fund, P.O.
