Calvin Humes

Passed away peacefully on January 18, 2019 at the age of 86. Cal was born in 1932 to Calvin Sr. and Molly Humes in Maple Park, Illinois. He graduated from DeKalb High School in 1952. In 1953 he married Sheila Ells of Sycamore IL. They have been married for 65 years. Cal was a veteran of the Army Korean conflict and worked at General Electric for over 30 years. Calvin is survived by his wife and children Patricia Humes (Gary Paldan) of Kalamazoo, Michigan, James Humes of Sycamore, Illinois, Cheryl (Greg) Kotecki of Jenison, Michigan and Marcia Humes of Fortrose, Scotland. In 1983 they moved to Holland, Michigan. Cal enjoyed fishing, gardening and golf. After retirement Cal and Sheila spent many years traveling and golfing and would spend the winter months at their home in Florida. In addition to his children, Cal is survived by 7 grandchildren, Kaisa (Tony) Heib, Maija and Annika Paldan, Molly and Jackson Humes and Weston and Ryan Kotecki and one great-grandchild, Luca Calvin Heib. Calvin and Sheila were members of the First United Methodist Church of Holland. The family would like to thank the staff at Evergreen Day Center and Resthaven for their care and support. Cremation has taken place and a private family gathering will take place at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to Evergreen Day Center or Hospice of Holland.
