Watts, Bruce A. Bruce Watts, a long-time resident of Portage, MI, passed away Friday, March 1, 2019 at the age of 98. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Elizabeth H. "Betsy" Watts. After serving in World War II with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, he received his BA from Rutgers University and Masters of Regional Planning from Cornell University. Bruce was hired by Kalamazoo County to be its first Planning Director in 1961 and remained there until his retirement in 1984. After retirement, he and Betsy traveled extensively throughout the U.S. in their motor home and visited every state except Hawaii. Bruce was a long-time member of the Battle Creek Hunt Club and those who knew him will remember his life-long love for horses. Bruce was a founding member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church and served on the vestry for many years. He was a loving father whose affection and inspiration will be greatly missed by his family.
