Betty Dawson

Betty Jean Dawson (nee Mason), age 96, of Portage, MI was born on October 2, 1919, in Comstock, MI. She went to be with Messiah Jesus on Thursday, June 30, 2016, surrounded by family at her home. The family wishes to thank Hospice Care of S.W. Michigan for their wonderful assistance and care for Betty. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Jenny (Klaasen) Mason; brothers, Douglas Mason, who gave his life on "D-Day," Stanley and Robert Mason; sisters, Pauline Niefert, Marian Whitehead and Marjorie Peck. Betty is survived by her husband of 73 years, Melvin Dawson; daughter, Diane Roberts; grandchildren, Lew (Cathy) Roberts, Mark (Kelly) Roberts, John (Holly) Roberts, Dawn (Ryan) Potter; great-grandchildren, Audrey, Breanne, Isabelle, Keegan, Dawson, Kaylee and Brody. Betty worked as a receptionist and switch board operator at the Eaton Corporation for over 25 years. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at the funeral home beginning at 11:00 AM, with a visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. Rev. Simon Tuin will officiate. Betty will be laid to rest next to her parents at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Hospice Care of S.W.
