Age 81, passed away at her home Friday May 15, 2015. Bette was born August 4, 1933 in Almena Twp., the daughter of Andrew and Maxine (Bishop) Vargo. She graduated from Mattawan High School in 1951 and on June 23, 1951 she was united in marriage to Chester Haluch, who survives. Also surviving are 4 children: Linda Conner, Bill Haluch, David (Lacee) Haluch and Mary Haluch; 9 grandchildren: Phillip Curtis III, Blake Curtis, Taylor Curtis, Ashley Conner (Brandon Hite), Sara (Ron) Perry, Hunter Haluch, Skyler Haluch, Olivia Haluch and Garrett Haluch; 4 great grandchildren: Mason Hite, Nicole Perry, Noah Perry and Jacob Perry; and a special caregiver, Barbara Mikel. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Nancy Curtis; siblings: Richard Vargo and Andrea Ritter; and a nephew, Michael Ritter. Bette worked at St. Regis Paper Co. in Kalamazoo, then worked at LaCantina as a waitress for 15 years; she was also an Avon Representative for 25 years. Bette was a life-long member of St. Mary’s parish, sang in the choir for 25 years and also helped her husband with the Cemetery. Bette enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, reading and watching birds. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Paw Paw, at 11am, with luncheon to follow. Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery at a later time.
