Cross, Bertha Mae (Grinnell) Kalamazoo, MI Returned to her Lord and Savior Wednesday morning November 2, 2016 after a battle with Alzheimer's Disease and other complications. She was 81 years old. Bertha was born on July 18, 1935 in Kalamazoo, Michigan a daughter of Harland and Viola (Town) Grinnell. She graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1952 and married Gerald William Cross on May 3, 1953. Bertha worked as a Contometer Operator and later on as a clerk at Coney Island. Bertha took care of the family's finances including completing their income tax returns and was also very thrifty purchasing her grocery's with coupons. Bertha was involved with her church throughout her life and enjoyed helping with the Pioneer Girls Group. She was also known as the "Casserole Queen" and would invite college students for dinner. Bertha and Gerald have been residing at Sojourner Place Senior living since June 25, 2015 where Bertha was well loved by Staff members. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Joel Cross; and a daughter, Denise Cross-Leppard. Bertha is survived by her husband, Gerald W. Cross; a son, David (Teri) Cross of Kalamazoo; 4 grandchildren, Jordan, Alec and Bryant Cross, and Elizibeth (Ben) Ulman; 3 great grandchildren, Ayla, Micah and Addie. A reception to celebrate Bertha's life will be 1-4pm Saturday, November 12th at the Free Methodist Church of Portage, 1715 W Centre Ave, Private burial will take place in Mt.
