Bert M. West, age 75, of Kalamazoo, MI died August 1, 2017 after a short battle with brain cancer. He was born in Laurel, DE on December 1, 1941; the son of the late Lee and Sarah (McGee) West. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his three brothers, Otwell, Ben and Ken and his sister, Karen Joseph. He is survived by his four children, Wanda (David) West of Laurel, DE, Melissa (Ron) Culver of Dagsboro, DE, Michael (Vanessa) West of Kalamazoo and Matthew West of Galveston, TX; 10 grandchildren, Ryan, Rachel, Jenna, Jason, Aaron, Tyler, Veronica, Lauren, Mikaela and Ethan; his brother, Jack West; sister, Roslyn West and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Bert was a building contractor for many years, however, his greatest calling in life was as the 'Tract Man' giving out his homemade tracts (pamphlets) about God's love and plan for salvation to anyone who would receive it. Bert taught Sunday school for 27 years at Kings United Methodist Church in Laurel, DE. He was also a long-time member of The Gideons International, an organization that places bibles in hotel rooms and distributes them all around the world. A funeral service will be held at Joldersma & Klein Funeral Home on Thursday, August 3, 2017 beginning at 5:30 PM. A time of visitation will take place prior to the service beginning at 5:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to The Gideons International in memory of Bert.
