Bert Steensma

Bert Allen Steensma, age 68, of Grand Rapids, went peacefully into Jesus' arms after a Grace filled battle with cancer on Sunday, May 24, 2015. He was preceded in death by his father, Gerrit Steensma, father-in-law and mother-in-law, William and Amy Smedley and niece, Tammy Jo Steensma. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Lynda Steensma; Mother, Elizabeth Zandstra; Children and Grandchildren, Lisa and Lance Buffinga (Jake, Court , Josiah , Isaac and Makaya) Amy and Mike Martin (Creston, Ethan and Charis) Stacey and Joel Kiekintveld (Naomi, Emma and Sydney) Tim and Melody Steensma (Wyatt, Morgan, Maysen); Brothers, Ron and Sandi Steensma, Bob and Sue Steensma, Gary and Carol Steensma; Brothers-in-law, Bill and Jim Smedley; Best friends, Bob and Lindy Velderman. Bert's life was marked by the love of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. This love was displayed in Bert's life as he loved his family, friends and others out loud with passion and laughter. Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM, Sunday May 31, at Mayfair Christian Reformed Church, 1736 Lyon St. NE, Grand Rapids. The family will greet friends and family at the Zaagman Memorial Chapel, 2800 Burton St. SE, Grand Rapids on Friday, May 29 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and Saturday, May 30, 10:00 AM to noon. Interment Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Grand Rapids. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to World Renew or Mayfair CRC Honduras Partnership.
