Died peacefully in his sleep after a brief bout with leukemia and onset dementia Monday morning January 20, 2020 at his residence. Bernard was born May 21, 1939 in Muskegon, Michigan a son of Eugene "Chet" and Elizabeth "Bess" (Busschuert) Deweese. He had been a Kalamazoo area resident most of his life and owned and operated Kalamazoo Garage Door & Repair for over 40 years. Bernard was also member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church. His hobbies included watching his grandsons play hockey, going to casinos and a favorite calling bingo for the Boys and Girls Club on Monday and Thursday nights. Bernie's son, Terry stated I'm really going to miss him, he never complained and was always there no matter who you were, all you had to do is ask him with a blink of an eye and he was there putting those around him first, he will be remembered by two words, "The Best" He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sons, Bernie & Daniel Deweese; a son-in-law, David Tindle; a sister, Patricia Deweese; a brother, Dave Deweese; and his dog, Gordie. On February 27, 1959, he was united in marriage to Carrol Ann (Giuliani) Deweese who survives. Also surviving, 5 children, Roxane Cooper of Tennessee, Pauline Tindle of Kalamazoo, Pam (Steve Scott) McCormack of Florida, Terry (Betty) Deweese of Kalamazoo, and Brad (Erika) Deweese of Alaska; 13 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11am Tuesday, January 28th at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 421 Monroe St. Visitation will be 4-7pm Monday, January 27th at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services, 3926 S 9th St, Kalamazoo, MI 49009. Interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Kalamazoo Boys and Girls Club.
