Bernice M. Basil

Bernice M. Basil, age 98, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at Ridgewood Care Center. Bernice was born in Racine, March 10, 1917, daughter of the late Edward and Gertrude (Nee: Thielen) Michna.

Bernice was a graduate of St. Catherine’s High School “Class of 1935” where she served as class secretary and treasurer. On July 5, 1941 she was united in marriage to Frank C. Basil who preceded her in death, July 4, 1972. She began her working career at Wisconsin Belle Telephone Company for six years and later with Twin Disc for over twenty-years, retiring in 1985. A longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bernice also belonged to the Christian Mothers. Bernice enjoyed gardening, but most of all cherished time spent with her family and grandchildren.

She will be dearly missed by her children, James Basil of Franklin, Bob Basil of Racine, Dr. William (Cindi) Basil of Muskego, Jerry Basil of Chandler, AZ, Mary Madsen of Ames, IA; her six grandchildren, Steven (Rhonda) Basil, Amy (Mark) Moore, Danielle Basil, Dr. Shauna (Dr. Dan Kazachkov) Basil, Peter Madsen, Monica Madsen; sisters, Irene Olson, Sr. Mary Michna O.P., both of Racine; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers, Edward, Charles, Ralph, Leo, Jerome; and sisters, Florence Orthy and Dorothy Yarmark.

Per Bernice’s wishes private services will be held. Memorials to St. Catherine’s High School have been suggested.
