Bernard (Bernie) Lyle Wilson, age 93, passed away peacefully, at the Grand Traverse Pavilions on January 30, 2018. Bernard was born December 4, 1924 in Manton, Michigan. He was one of seven children, born to George and Kitty Wilson. His two brothers, four sisters and parents preceded him in death.

He married the former, Avis Pauline Brooks, on August 27, 1949. They were married 65 years, with Avis preceding him in death in 2015. Surviving are their children, Lyle (Nancy), William (Sue), Todd (Deb) and Bernadette; grandchildren, Jason (Jamie), Kyle, Jonathan, Katie, Christopher, Benjamin and great-grandchildren; Atreya and Paxton.

Bernie served in the 9th Army Air Corp Division during World War II. He was the last surviving member of his B26 Bomber Crew. He completed 32 missions over Germany, as a tail gunner during the Battle of the Bulge. Bernie was honorably discharged in 1945, with the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Bernie graduated from Central Michigan College in 1949. He was a coach and teacher, in both the Pellston and Traverse City Public Schools and basketball coach at Northwestern Michigan College. He eventually left his teaching career for a sales position with Jostens.

He had a love for his family, hunting, fishing, golf and tennis. He was a life member at the T.C. Elks Lodge #323.

The family wishes to thank Bernie and Avis's Dogwood staff at the Grand Traverse Pavilions.

Following his wishes, cremation has taken place and no service is planned.
