Mrs. (John) Barbara Crow, age 89, died on March 24, 2017 in Portage, Michigan, with daughters Carla and Jan at her side. Barbara was born in Kalamazoo in 1927, and was the daughter of George Wiencek Kelly and Dorothea (Brown). Her husband, Atty. John L. Crow, both parents, and her older brother, Richard Wiencek, predeceased her. Barbara loved cooking, the arts, gardening, and reading. She was always eager for games of any sort, everything from badminton to volleyball and Scrabble to contract Bridge. She always made time for friends in need, hospital visits and sending holiday meals. She volunteered for many different organizations and causes. Barbara continued to be a fierce competitor at both (wheelchair) volleyball and Bridge into her final years while residing at The Heritage Community in Kalamazoo. Barbara is survived by her 5 children, Carla Kelly (Tim Turcott) of Portage, MI; Bill (Michelle Fisher) of Bellingham, WA; Jan Crow of Hartland, VT; Steve Crow of Charlotte, NC; and Judy (Chris) Rosenthal of Naperville, IL; grandchildren Kevin, Matt (Sonya Datta Sandhu) and Tim (Julia) Kelly, Zack and Olivia Crow Zerphy, Colin, Thomas, and Steven Rosenthal, Anthony Fisher, and Anya (Scott) Persson; and great-grandson Mohan Datta Kelly. Our beloved mother will be dearly missed. A memorial service celebrating Barbara's life will be held at a later date in St. Joseph, MI which was her home for more than fifty years. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan, 222 N. Kalamazoo Mall, Suite 100, Kalamazoo, MI 49008 or The Heritage Community of Kalamazoo, 2400 Portage, Kalamazoo, MI 49001.
