Barbara “Bobbie” E Bergmann (née Neuman) died at home, surrounded by family, on September 1, 2015 in Racine, WI, following a battle with lung cancer. She was 78.

Barbara was born on March 21, 1937 in Appleton, WI, to Harold and Cecelia Neuman (née Sonn). She graduated from Holy Angels High School, followed by Mount Mary College, with a degree in Elementary Education in 1959. Also in 1959, she married Richard C Bergmann of Milwaukee. Barbara and Richard moved to Racine, WI in 1964, where Barbara worked at the University of Wisconsin Parkside while raising four children with her husband. She retired in 1997 to enjoy her grandchildren and travel with family and friends. She was a long-standing member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Racine.

Barbara travelled to over 19 countries and loved experiencing new cultures and adventures. It seems she was always planning her next trip. She treasured her many friends who shared her interests in travel, movies, cards and books. Closest to her heart was always her family. She enjoyed many concerts, athletic events, and graduations over the years in support of her children and grandchildren.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 56 years, Richard, her daughter, Karen Bergmann of Milwaukee, daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and William Mathias of De Pere, son and daughter-in-law, David and Brenda Bergmann of Appleton, son-in-law Daniel Hardy of Waterford, sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Eldred Miller of Slinger, sister, Patricia Barbera, sister-in-law Constance Neuman and grandchildren Jacob Bergmann, Alexandra Bergmann, Amanda Hardy and Natalie Hardy. She is preceded in death by her brother, Paul Neuman and her daughter, Ann Hardy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 6400 Spring St, Racine, WI, on Friday September 4, 2015, at 11:00 am. Visitation will take place immediately before Mass beginning at 9:30 am. A private interment will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Women’s Resource Center of Racine, PO BOX 1764, Racine, WI 53401 or Bethany Apartments, 806 Wisconsin Avenue, Racine, WI 53403.

Heartfelt thanks Dr. Ryan Engel and staff at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Cancer & Infusion Center and Hospice services for doing everything in their power to provide compassionate care and support. Also, special thanks to our family and friends for the countless acts of kindness extended to Bobbie.
