Age 90, passed away Sunday, January 29, 2017 with her family at her side. Augusta was born on January 6, 1927 in Grand Rapids the daughter of the late Henry and Augusta (Weller) Berkhout. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, William T. Christensen and Robert Doane; her sisters, Evelyn, Dorothy, and Barb; and her son-in-law, Fred Shortsle. Augusta was the most loving and caring person, not only to her family but to everyone she came in contact with. She will be missed greatly by everyone. Augusta is survived by her children, Barbara (Mike) Cole of Grand Blanc, William Christensen of Greenville, Bonnie (Joe) Jangda of Grand Rapids, Connie (Ray) Cochenour of Grand Rapids, Nancy Shortsle of Lowell, Mary Christensen of Grand Rapids, and John Christensen of Lakeview; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Also surviving are her siblings, Henry (Mitzi) Berkhout, Donna (John) McManus, and John Berkhout; and several nieces and nephews. A private family service will be held. Interment will be in Chapel Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Ann's Home of Grand Rapids and/or Emmanuel Hospice.
