Armas V. Latva, age 103, entered his heavenly home Wednesday, June 7, 2017. Armas was born in Covington, Michigan, September 29, 1913, son of the late Michael and Alma (Nee: Koivoniemi) Latva.

Armas was a graduate of Wakefield High School Michigan “Class of 1933”. In 1936, he was united in marriage to Olga Mattson in Ironwood, Michigan who preceded him in death in 1984. He came to Racine in 1942 and was employed at J.I. Case Company for thirty-six years, where he retired as a supervisor in 1978. In 1988, he married Martha “Pat” Krause who preceded him in death in 2012. Armas had been an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church since 1947. He volunteered for Meals-on-Wheels and with Community Oriented Police. He was a member of Ives Grove Men’s Golf League, Castle Lanes Bowling League, the Racine Golden K Kiwanis Club, and the Mount Pleasant Men’s Schafskopf Club. When Armas was no longer able to go out, members of his card club met with him at Elizabeth Gardens. Longtime friends from his birthday club, Case Twenty Year Club, and the Lost and Found Club gave him great joy.

Survivors include his stepdaughter, Kathleen Tonkin of Racine: brother Milton Latva of New Berlin; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents and wives he was preceded in death by his daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Gerald Fehlberg and granddaughters, Julie and Lynn; brothers Alfred, Emil, George, Sam, and Ray.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 11, 2017, 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Sunday at the funeral home from 1:00 P.M. until time of service at 2:00 P.M. Interment will be held Monday at West Lawn Memorial Park, 1:00 P.M. Memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church have been suggested.

The family wishes to extend a very special thank you to the caregivers and the entire staff at Elizabeth Gardens and at Hospice Alliance.
