Arlene McEwen

Age 86, passed away December 7, 2018 at her home. Arlene was born February 25, 1932 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of George and Mary (Verastek) Vargo and has been a lifelong area resident. She was a longtime member of the St. Luke's Episcopal Church. For many years she was a member of the church guild, volunteered with the St. Luke's Thrift Shop and was very active with the Comstock Senior Center. She enjoyed gardening, planting flowers, but the most important part of her life was her family. On October 24, 1953 she was united in marriage to Carl Lee McEwen, who survives. Also surviving are their daughter Lisa (Pat) Callan; two grandchildren Joseph (Holly) Cook and Matthew Callan (Haley Holman); in-law's Marilyn Vargo, Betty Short and Jack (Linda) McEwen; nieces and nephews. Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; by a son James L. McEwen and by her siblings Viola Vargo and Edward Vargo. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00pm on Tuesday, December 11th at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick Street. The funeral service will be held at 3:00pm on Wednesday, December 12th at St. Luke's Episcopal Church (247 W. Lovell Street) with Rev. Dr. Warren Randall officiating.
