Anthony Friess Perrino died peacefully at the age of 86 on October 10th at the Friess family home on Lake Michigan being cared for by Karen, his wife of 43 years, and her brother, Bob. While in Michigan he was receiving service from Hospice of Michigan and in VA by Hospice of the Piedmont. Tony was born in Detroit on March 11, 1928. He was a graduate of Boston University Theological Seminary and counted among the great influences of his life fellow classmate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. as well as Dr. Henry Hitt Crane and Howard Thurman. Tony was a Unitarian Universalist minister for 30 years and served at churches throughout the U.S. including in Schenectady, NY; Detroit, MI; Rockford, Ill; and Santa Barbara, CA. He also served as a Hospice Chaplain in Oakland, CA and Charlottesville, VA. Tony was a poet, a published author and a skilled orator, particularly in the area of social change. He taught classes on film through the OLLIE program in Charlottesville. He is survived by his wife Karen; sons, Mark of Copenhagen, Denmark; Chris of Ventura, CA; and Stephen of Saratoga Springs, NY; grandchildren Kara, Andreas, Anthony, and Zoe and his former wife and mother of his sons, Mary Ellen of Saratoga Springs. He will be missed by many whose lives he touched with his great humor, generosity and wisdom.
