Ann Perry passed away at the age of 76 on March 30, 2018 after a brief illness. Ann graduated from Western Michigan University prior to beginning her career as a social worker. She spent 2.5 years in St. Joseph County where she dealt with neglect and abuse cases, as well as delinquent youth and adoption cases. Next, she went to work at the Kalamazoo County Department of Social Services (now the Department of Human Services), and retired after 30 years. While there, she was a foster care worker, a delinquency worker, a children's protective services worker, and an adult employment worker. Following her retirement from DSS, Ann worked for approximately two years for Child Care Resources and for approximately two years for Lutheran Social Services. Ann performed volunteer work for more than 15 years as a mentor for three Kalamazoo youngsters. As a member of the League of Women Voters she represented the League on the Poverty Reduction Initiative (PRI) Board and as a very active member of the Housing Matters Task Force. Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Bruce and Hazel Perry, brothers Phil (Melanie), Doug (Luella), and Loren (Barb), and nephew Robert Tolin. She is survived by sisters Jean Tolin, Kay Perry, and Sue (Jim) Nelmes and many nieces, nephews and their families. Consistent with Ann's wishes, there will be no memorial service. Memorial contributions may be made to Loaves and Fishes, the League of Women Voters of the Kalamazoo Area, or a charity of your choice.
