Alvin M. Peden, age 90, of Cement City, MI passed away on Friday, October 28, 2016, at Highland Assisted Living in Jackson. He was born on October 8, 1926, in Portland, Indiana to Raymond and Marilla (Ferner) Peden. He married Patricia L. Taylor on April 29, 1950, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and she survives. Alvin was raised in Portland, Indiana before moving to Kalamazoo. Alvin then moved to Martin, Michigan for 56 years, before moving to the Cement City area 4 years ago. He graduated from Portland High School in 1944. He was the owner of Al's Tack Shop in Martin, Michigan for many years. He was involved with Harness Horse Racing all his life. Alvin was the Representative at Muskegon Raceway, he was a member of the Michigan Harness Horse Racing Association, member of the U.S.T.A. and was on the board of the Michigan Breeders Association. Surviving besides his wife Patricia, is one son, Philip Peden of Addison, one daughter, Tamara Gardner of Wyoming, Michigan, seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, one brother, Ernest L. Peden of California, one sister, Edna Stout of Portland, Indiana, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Robert and Harvey Peden and one sister, Ruth Rash. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Addison.
