Alvie Patterson

Alvie Eugene Patterson, 92 of Traverse City, formerly of Grand Rapids, died Sunday March 20, 2016 at Munson Hospice House. He was born on December 6, 1923 in Detroit, the son of Thomas E. Patterson and Mable Maud Metcalf.

Alvie married Dorothy Mila Degarmo on May 22nd, 1948 in Highland Michigan.

He was a member of the Michigan State Numismatic Society and the Grand Rapids Coin Club. Alvie loved to play cards and go to the casino. He showed special interest in foreign coins and paper money. After graduating he went in the Army where he was a Stenographer during WWll, even working at the Pentagon. Alvie retired from the Wayne County Road Commission in 1972 and was a resident of Grand Rapids for 42 years.

Alvie is survived by his daughter Nancy A. Patterson; granddaughters; Dawn (Garet) Burch and Victoria (T.J. Nolan) Haney, great grandchildren: Deztiny Short, Tim Short, Katie Short, Laine Burch, his daughter-in-law; Gail (Bruce) Gualtiere, brother-in-law; Jay DeGarmo, sister-in-law; Delores DeGarmo and various nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Dorothy; son Kenneth; brothers, Clifford, Pat and Roy Patterson and niece Phyllis Meadows.

Cremation has taken place. Graveside services will be held 12:30pm, Friday, April 22, 2016 at the Highland Township Cemetery, Highland, Michigan.
