Alma M. Sucharda, age 93, passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at Ridgewood Care Center. Alma was born in Racine, July 13, 1923, daughter of the late Herman and Mary (Nee: Bablitz) Selky.

Alma was a graduate of Washington Park High School “Class of 1940”. On January 30, 1943 she was united in marriage to Robert J. Sucharda who preceded her in death, January 11, 1995. Alma was secretary/treasurer of Robert J. Sucharda Tavern and distributorship. She was a member of the Belle City Senior Center, Elks Ladies, Submarine Veterans Division and St. Mary’s Auxiliary. Mrs. Sucharda enjoyed reading, sewing, knitting, and crocheting. She severed as Alderman of the 15th District after the unexpected death of her husband. She was a longtime member of St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church.

She will be dearly missed by her children, Michael (Beth) Sucharda, Richard (Susan) Sucharda, Sue (Paul) Schroeder; her five grandchildren, Michael (Maggie) Sucharda, Joseph (Andrea) Sucharda, Amanda Sucharda, Anne (Ben) Swoboda, Stacy Schroeder; her four great-grandchildren, Liam Sucharda, Aviana Sucharda, William Swoboda, Robert Swoboda; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by an infant son; brothers, Waldemar, Albert, Robert, Edwin; and sister, Ida Andersen.

Private family services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Catherine’s High School or to one’s favorite charity have been suggested.

The family would like to thank everyone at Ridgewood for their love and compassion. A special thanks to the 1 and 2 East Staff and Rehab department. She sure enjoyed her time there.
