Allan Vanden Bos

Allan Lee Vanden Bos of Kalamazoo, MI passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Crystal Woods on Monday, April 20, 2015 at the age of 82. Allan was born in Comstock, Michigan on August 3, 1932, the son of the late Reinier and Ida (Boonstra) Vanden Bos. Allan graduated from Comstock High School (nickname PeeWee) in 1950. Allan worked at Consumers Power Company for 43 years. Allan served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a member of Haven Reformed Church for many years and more recently Calvary Bible Church. Allan married Tricia (Hoogendoorn) November 7, 1952. Allan is survived by his wife Tricia of 62 years; children, Pam Selent, Paula (Sherman) Smeed, Ron (Wendy) Vanden Bos, and Pat (Mark) VanOrder; 10 grandchildren, Angie (Jeremy) Steed, Greg Selent, Scott Selent, Michelle (Daniel) McClendon, Emily (Jason) Bartlett, Eric Smeed, Laura (Jake) Simonds, Steve (Mackenzie) Vanden Bos, Christine (Justin) Osentoski, and Matt Carpenter; 3 great grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Avery Steed, and Sawyer Simonds; sister, Darlene (Herm) Cramer, and several nieces and nephews. Allan was preceded in death by son-in-law Gary Selent. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 from 2:00 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 8:00 p.m. at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at 1:00 p.m., with Rev. Cecil Martens officiating. Following cremation a private interment will be held at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Allan's memory may be directed to Park Village Pines.
