Alfred "Ozzie" Hamilton Osborne, Jr., 95, of Harlem, New York, passed away peacefully in his home in Portage, MI. Sunday, December 25, 2016. He is survived by his wife Valerie Hackley (Martin) who was by his side to the end. Ozzie was born October 10, 1921 in Harlem, New York to Fannie Belle Payne and Alfred H. Osborne Sr. Ozzie volunteered to serve his country during WW2 and was a radar sergeant in the acclaimed Harlem 369 infantry. Ozzie had a long career as a postal clerk in Harlem, New York. In 1989, at the age of 68, he moved from his beloved New York City to join his daughter in Portage, Michigan to be near his granddaughter Zubayda. On September 10, 1994 he married Valerie June Hackley (Martin) in Kalamazoo. Ozzie spent his retirement years barbecuing, bowling, speed skating, cross country skiing and golfing. Ozzie is survived by his wife Valerie, son Andrew (Annette), daughter Alexandria (Saidi), granddaughter Zubayda, great grandchildren Nuri and Camila, sister Dolores White, step children Colette, Jason (Jeannie), and Petris (Sheaee). Eleven step grandchildren (including Aaron, Jaron, Jazlyn, Justyne, Jada, and Kylee), step great grandchild Amere, and many nieces and nephews who adored him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fannie Belle and Alfred H. Osborne Sr., wife Norma, wife Delores, step daughter Claudine, brother Reginald, and sister Wilhilmina. A celebration of life service will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, January 4 at Union Unity Church of Kalamazoo 1204 Whites Road, Kalamazoo, Michigan 49008. Following the service, his remains will be laid to rest at Fort Custer National Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Kalamazoo Autism Society.
